Rights of Parents Islam

Parents are the great blessing of Allah Almighty. They are most precious gift given by Allah. They do a lot of work to provide the necessary food, clothing, shelter and medical care to their children therefore, children should obey the order of parents according to Islam. Parents are the only one this world who loves their  children unconditionally regardless of anything.

In this regard Islam has rights of parents. Islam assign duties on children towards their parents especially when they grow old and become weaker. Allah orders people to be grateful toward their parents, treat them kindly and obey them exactly the same way the parents used to treat them in their childhood

Rights of Parents in light of Hadith:

This come in hadith the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said, when Abdullah Ibn Masud asked the Prophet: “Which is the most favorite act in the sight of Allah”? He answered, ”Offer prayer at scheduled time( As time is fixed for each prayer) ”. Abdullah Ibn Masud asked: “What is next most likely act after that”? Prophet Hazarat Muhammad (SAW) said: ”To be good and grateful with your parents”.

It comes in another hadith Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn Al Aas said: A man came and says to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), “I want to participate in Jihad”. Prophet Hazarat Muhammad (SAW) asked: “Do you have your parents”? He answered: “Yes”. The Prophet Hazarat Muhammad (SAW) said to him, “Then devote your self for your parents.

Parent’s Rights in the Holy Quran:

“And remember when We made a covenant with the Children of Israel, saying: Worship none but Allah, and be good to your parents, and to the kindred, and to the orphans and the needy, and speak kindly to the people, and keep up prayer and Give Zakat (but) then all of you, except a few of you, turned away and you are turning away.”
