The Dajjal or the Messiah is the title of the person who is one of the great signs of the Hour and will appear in the last days near to qiamah. In some narrations only the word ‘Dajjal’ is mentioned, which means the most treacherous, deceitful and cunning and in some narrations it is also mentioned as ‘Al-Masih al-Dajjal’, which means that before the Day of Resurrection. Someone will falsely claim to be the Messiah and deceive people with some of his perfections by taking advantage of the idea of the coming of the Messiah within Muslims, Jews and Christians. The Dajjal will come from the east. After his departure, he will go to every city and town on earth, but he will not be able to enter Makkah and Medina and Al-Aqsa Mosque and Masjid.
There is no real name for “Dajjal” in the hadiths of the Prophet. In Islamic terminology, his title is “Dajjal” and this word has become his identity and symbol. Every prophet has warned his nations of his persecution, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has explained his persecution in great detail, as well as many signs and warnings. The methods have been explained to his ummah.
Physical appearance of the Dajjal:
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The Dajjal will be deaf with his left eye, he will have very thick hair on his body, and with it will be Paradise and Hell. In fact, it will be his hell and the hell that will be seen will actually be heaven (so whoever he gives heaven to will be hell and whoever he puts in his hell will be heaven).” [Muslim Sharif]
Dajjal The greatest tribulation:
Hazrat Imran bin Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I have heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say that from the birth of Adam (peace be upon him) till the Day of Resurrection there is no greater tribulation than the Dajjal.” [Muslim] The infidel will be written on his face. Believers will recognize him by his face. And the disbelievers will not see it.
Stay away from the Dajjal:
Imran ibn Husayn (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever hears the news of the Dajjal, he should stay away from it. He is a man, but seeing the wonders of those who are with him, he will follow him.” [Abu Dawood]
The immorality of the Dajjal:
The Dajjal will be from the Jewish nation. His title will be Christ in public. On a road between Syria and Iraq he will appear. However, in the light of the hadiths, no special place has been set aside for the appearance of the Dajjal. He will have a bead in his right eye. He will have curly hair. He will have a big donkey in his saddle. He will claim to be a prophet and then he will go to Isfahan from there. He will be accompanied by seventy thousand Jews. From here he will make a claim of God and spread mischief all around.
Forty days of Dajjal Tribulation:
The evil days of the Dajjal on earth will last for forty days, of which one day will be equal to one month of the year and one will be equal to one week. The remaining days will be equal to ordinary days.
Dajjal Fitna and Surah Al-Kahf :
Surah Al-Kahf is one of the greatest Suarh of Al-Qur’an. One of the reasons for the greatness of this surah is that it is the cause of salvation from the Dajjal. As it is mentioned above the departure of the Dajjal is one of the great signs of the Hour and the tribulation of the Dajjal is the greatest tribulation of the time Apart from Makkah and Madinah, the Dajjal will trample the whole world and make countless people the victims of his tribulations. The confrontation of this tribulation will be like a challenge for the believers. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has described various ways and means to avoid this fitna. One of these methods is the recitation and memorization of the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf.
Memorizing the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf protects one from the fitna of the Dajjal. The proof of this is the following narration of Muslim Sharif.
Translation: “Any one learns the first 10 verses of Surah Al-Kahf will be saved from the fitna of Dajjal”. [Sahih Muslim: 809]
